A Divine alliance between the King of Fruits, bananas and chocolate reigns surpreme at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa in Penang.
Tastebuds are bound to submit to the all-new Durian Banana Mousse Cake, a unique creation with luscious layers of indulgence.
Waste not a moment to grab your share for it is available until the end of August only at the Rasa Deli in the hotel’s Garden Wing.
Executive pastry chef Dino Wan said Musang King durian puree and caramelised bananas form the heart of the cake.
These are wrapped in a blanket of rich chocolate mousse and sit on a crunchy throne of almond dacquoise covered with fresh coconut flakes.
Everything is enrobed in a flawless white chocolate-based mirror glaze and then topped with a chocolate scroll and fondant flower.
“Penang is known for durians, and we try to celebrate the fruit differently each year. Our durian puffs were well-received last year,” said Dino.
“This time, we added complementary elements. Bananas, coconut and almonds go together well with durian.”
Besides adding flavour and texture, the supplementary cast also serve to mellow out the thorny fruit’s pungency.
Communications director Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman feels that even those who are not fans of anything durian-based might find themselves converted.
The cake is sold at RM15 and available from 11am to 6pm daily.
Guests can take it away or dine in at the adjacent F.I.P Lounge.
“We also have pastries, muffins, cookies, macaroons and sandwiches at the Rasa Deli.
“Guests can place orders for cakes and drop by the hotel to collect them,” Suleiman said.
The Rasa Deli also offers a value-added Takeaway Combo or Sandwich Combo with either a cake of the day or selected sandwich alongside a beverage, priced at RM18 and RM26 respectively.
